Laptop Survey
Students and Admits out there, quick survey, what kind of laptop are you using for b-school? Any of you using the laptop that the school sells? Any Mac users out there? Or what about Tablets? Leave comments, please! :-)
A lot of the students at Kellogg buys the school computer because of the convenience. You can bring it back for them to fix it or just simply exchange for one.
So far... Kellogg and Columbia are tied in first place. :P
I'm probably getting a Mac, just because I have always wanted one and this is my chance. Spoke to some Wharton students who said you don't need anything special, despite what schools tell you. Most stuff you have to do is in Excel or Word. Also heard to avoid Vista, but that is probably harder to do these days.
I used a Mac PowerBook and iMac my first year at Wharton then switched to an HP laptop my second year. If you're doing a lot of PowerPoint and Excel, it can be helpful to have Windows--there are some compatibility issues with the Mac version of Office and macros aren't always the same. Exchange servers can also not play nice with Entourage (to sync your calendar). But if you wanted a Mac, I'd get one and enjoy it!
I've heard some programs at some schools are only Windows compatible. Also, Vista will be good to go after SP1 is released...especially since Microsoft is going to end support for Windows XP in 2009.
